Rising star Lauren Spiteri, the niece of Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri, has said music is in her blood as she gears up for her headline appearance at TRSNMT.
The 30-year-old is topping the bill on the Queen Tut’s stage, introduced for the first time to help even out the gender play gap and give space to up-and-coming female artists.
Asked if her festival appearance is carrying on a tradition from her aunt after Texas appeared on the main stage last year, she said: “I guess you could say that.
“It’s like if a dad was a lawyer and a son was a lawyer – it’s the same thing.
“Music’s in my blood. My grandparents, their parents, were all into music so it’s kind of all I’ve ever known so I’m excited to have my stuff released and to be embarking on this career – so what a way to be able to showcase my stuff on the Queen Tut’s stage, it’s pretty special.”
Having recently moved back to her home city of Glasgow after a decade in London, she added: “I’m just excited to be part of it, I think it’s really nice that TRNSMT are celebrating women in music that may be overlooked and that are just doing it on their own, and I’m very proud to be sharing a stage with these amazing women.
“The Glasgow crowd is known for being crazy so hopefully it will be a good turnout and people will come and see, and it should be fun.”
