James Vaughan’s penalty gave Bradford a 1-0 win over Newport to keep their League Two play-off push on course.
The Bantams’ top scorer won and converted the spot-kick just before the hour when he intercepted a misplaced back-pass and drew a foul from goalkeeper Nick Townsend.
Aramide Oteh went close to a second but one goal was enough to keep Bradford sixth in the table and inflict a fourth straight league defeat on their opponents.
Oteh wasted a couple of first-half opportunities and Kelvin Mellor headed over, while Newport had to wait until the second half for Tristan Abrahams to threaten.
Ryan Inniss’ ill-advised ball back saw Townsend bring down Vaughan, who calmly tucked away the winner.
The keeper partially redeemed himself by tipping Oteh’s header onto the bar and then denying Paudie O’Connor.
