Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe hailed his side’s character following their 2-1 comeback win against Sky Bet League Two promotion rivals Crewe.
Harry Pickering fired Crewe ahead with a superb 52nd-minute strike, but Argyle responded five minutes later when Luke Jephcott headed home his sixth goal in nine games.
Antoni Sarcevic netted the 71st-minute winner after playmaker Danny Mayor was fouled in the box.
The fixture had been in doubt due to unfavourable weather conditions but was given the green light following a late pitch inspection.
Lowe said: “It was eventful with the pitch inspection, the wind and rain and what not.
“I could see the ball swirling in the air and then stopping straight away.
“There’s not many times Byron Moore gives the ball away because he doesn’t misjudge it, and Luke Jephcott is the same, but the ball was just stopping in mid-air (because of the strength of the wind).
“Huge credit has got to go to the ground staff because they worked their socks off to get the game on.
“What I did think of the game was that it was two good teams out there battling it out for three points.
“Both teams played the right way, with some good interchange and patterns of play from them and us. It was a really exciting game.
“I don’t like going a goal behind all the time but if it means you win 2-1 then you’ll probably take it!
“The character of the boys to keep going, rally on and take three points off a very good team in Crewe… I’m obviously very pleased.”
Alex boss David Artell was happy the match went ahead but felt his side deserved three points.
“We came down at 12 o’clock and the pitch was under water,” he said. “We came back at one and it was in good condition.
“They had a right good go at getting the game on and the ground staff deserve a lot of credit. I had no complaints there.
“The best team has lost without a shadow of a doubt.
“The criticism at half-time was that we should have been out of sight, we could have been three or four up and we weren’t.
“That has come back to bite us.
“They had a massive helping hand, there were three ‘penalties’ – one got given that wasn’t a penalty and two didn’t get given that were penalties. We feel hard done by. That is a three-goal swing.
“We deserved to win the game by a distance, so to lose it is galling. I can’t explain the referee’s decisions.
“I would love to be able to take a laptop in and show him – you are not allowed to do that.”
