Richard Cockerill has made five changes as he hopes to secure Edinburgh’s place in the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup.

Cockerill’s side can claim a home tie in the last eight of the European competition with a win over Stade Francais on Friday night at BT Murrayfield.

After a comfortable win over Southern Kings last week, Cockerill has made five changes to his side with Damien Hoyland coming into the back three and Chris Dean replacing Phil Burleigh, who came off injured early on last week, at centre.

Sam Hidalgo-Clyne returns to scrum-half, while Rory Sutherland is named in the front row and Bill Mata will scrum down at number eight in the final change.

Head coach Cockerill, whose side have won all four of their European games so far this season, said: “We’ve got an opportunity to secure a home quarter-final, so that will be our objective going into the game to make sure we get the job done.

“It’s important that we play these big sides and we test ourselves. Stade Francais were good enough to win the Challenge Cup last year and they’re a good enough side to do it again. If you watched them against Montpellier last weekend they were very competitive and combative.

“However, I’ve chosen a strong side and believe we have more than enough firepower across the board to secure a positive result and a home quarter-final”
