This Morning’s Dr Ranj Singh is the seventh celebrity to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing.

The news was announced on the ITV morning show by presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

The medical professional will join the already announced line-up of celebrities including former cricketer Graeme Swann, TV presenter Katie Piper, Steps singer Faye Tozer, Red Dwarf actor Danny John-Jules, YouTube star Joe Sugg and DJ Vick Hope.

The TV star emerged from a glitterball-shaped chair as he was revealed as the latest contestant.

He said: “I’m shaking. It’s been really recent but even so it’s been so hard because you are sworn to secrecy. All my friends, I’m so sorry if I’ve lied to you.

“You don’t want to ruin it, it’s such a big deal and you don’t want to ruin it.”

All the contestants this year have been given code names that are different types of cheeses and revealing his own, he said: “I’m goats’ cheese, my agent has been calling me Old Goat for the last couple of weeks.

“Everything hurts. I’m trying to get fitter. My friends would describe me as a cross between dad-dancing and go-go dancing.

“I do like dancing but I’ve never been formally trained. It’s one of my favourite things to do and I really want to learn to dance properly.”

Adding he would be happy with any of the professionals as his partner, he told Langsford, who competed in the TV dance competition last year: “I need tips!”

Langsford and professional dancer partner Anton du Beke were the seventh pair to be eliminated in the previous series.

The 16th series of Strictly Come Dancing will get under way in the autumn on BBC One.
