Ava DuVernay and Kevin Smith are among the famous Star Wars fans heaping praise on The Rise Of Skywalker following its world premiere.

The final film in the Skywalker saga, directed by JJ Abrams, was unveiled at a star-studded premiere in Los Angeles.

While official reviews of the film will appear on Wednesday, those attending the red carpet event have shared their first thoughts.

DuVernay, the director of Selma and A Wrinkle In Time, wrote on Twitter: “The perfect end to an epic saga. The story is truly emotional.

“The direction is jawdropping. I don’t know how he did it. To balance scope and scale with so much heart like that is a feat.

“The performances are so damn good. Especially, Daisy (Ridley). A fantastic ride.”

Smith wrote: “At the @starwars premiere, I saw @Jon_Favreau and he gave me a #Mandalorian coin.

“If I could spend it to see #TheRiseOfSkywalker again right now I would!

“EPIC ending to the Saga, in which J.J. gives us a satisfying and gratifying finale! (And they finally do right by Chewie!)”

Another attendee wrote: “Tweeting through tears – #TheRiseofSkywalker isn’t the best Star Wars film, but it is the ULTIMATE Star Wars film.

“A truly stunning finale to a nine film saga. Only weird thing was the amount of screen time spent on characters wolfing down raw vidalia onions. I ADORED this movie.”

Yet another said: “Wow. Wow. Wow. #TheRiseOfSkywalker delivers.

“So much happens in this film it’s hard to get my head around. But it gets this epic ending right.

“So right. JJ Abrams and team nails it. And gives a whole new appreciation for The Last Jedi in the process. Please avoid spoilers!”

One more said: “All I can say is ‘wow’. #StarWars: #TheRiseOfSkywalker is many things: horrifying, hopeful, violent, lowkey horny, and full of the right kind of fan service.

“But most of all, it’s a fitting ending for this incredible, 40+ year-long saga.”

– Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19.
