Rail services from Aberdeen actually started in another city yesterday as the east-coast line suffered from further staff shortages.
The first of ScotRail’s multi-million pound fleet of “high-speed” trains broke down on its maiden voyage after an overzealous driver tooted its horn for too long.
The derailment at Stonehaven coincided with another disappointment for rail users as a “high-speed” train broke down on its first trip between Aberdeen and Edinburgh shortly before.
The new multimillion pound fleet of “high-speed” trains running between Aberdeen and Edinburgh will not make journeys significantly quicker until at least next December.
The first of a fleet of new high-speed trains will travel from Aberdeen next week.
