The P&J 275 Community Fund
CHARITY TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

Overview

The P&J 275 Community Fund is a fundraising campaign run (the “Campaign”) by DC Thomson & Company Ltd (“DCT”). Scottish charities will be nominated by The P&J readers with the four successful charities being named one of The P&J charity partners for The Press and Journal in 2024. All nominated charities will be featured on The Press and Journal website during the nomination period.

Entry

Scottish charities will be nominated by The Press and Journal readers during the period from 14 July 2023 at 6:00am until 25 August 2023 at 6:00pm. Nominated charities will be contacted by email by 25 August 2023 to inform them of the nomination.

Nominated charities that wish to be involved in the Campaign must provide all required details by completing the Charity Spotlight form. Charities may only enter once. A link to the form will be emailed to the charity at the email address provided on the charity’s website or on the nomination form. Charities must complete and return this form to communityfund@pressandjournal.co.uk by 1 September 2023 to qualify for reader voting and to qualify for a spotlight feature on The Press and Journal website.

All charities that have completed a Charity Spotlight form will be categorised and added to the voting page on The Press and Journal website. Charities will be grouped as follows:

– Small/Medium Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

– Large Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

– Small/Medium Highlands & Islands and Moray

– Large Highlands & Islands and Moray

Charities will be categorised in accordance with their area of work, as specified on the Charity Spotlight form, and total income for financial year 2022/23. Charities with an income between £0 – £49,999 will be categorised as Small/Medium and those with an income of £50,000 or more will be categorised as Large. One P&J charity partner will be chosen from each of the categories set out above, in accordance with the voting rules set out below.

Eligibility

In order to be considered your charity must be a Scottish charity registered with the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

The charity must also be able to show that the work of the charity is undertaken within The Press and Journal coverage area – Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and/or the Highlands & Islands and Moray. The charity may be registered in another area of Scotland, but the work the charity undertakes must fall within one of the coverage areas outlined above. The charity must be able to provide on-request audited accounts for the financial year 2022

By submitting the Charity Spotlight form, you confirm that all information provided in the form is true and correct.

Charity Spotlight Feature

All charities that have completed a valid Charity Spotlight form will be featured on The Press and Journal website. We will use the information provided in the form to compile a profile of the charity for use on the website. All Charity Spotlight forms submitted will become the property of DCT on receipt and will not be returned. DCT may also from time-to-time use all or part of the information provided in the Charity Spotlight form in promotional materials and other materials associated with The P&J 275 Community Fund and the Campaign. By submitting the Charity Spotlight form, you agree to DCT using the information provided for this purpose.

A limited number of charity profiles will be featured in The Press and Journal newspaper. These profiles will be selected by the Editor. DCT makes no guarantees in relation to the quantity or type of charities featured in the newspaper and the Editor’s decision is final as to the charities featured.

Voting and the Award

On completion of the nomination period, The Press and Journal readers will vote for “The P&J Charity Partners for 2024”. All nominated charities will be eligible for the reader vote. Voting will open at 6:00am on 3 November 2023 and will close at 5:00pm on 27 November 2023. The Press and Journal readers will place votes via the voting page found at https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/tag/pj-charities/. At the end of the reader vote, the charity with the highest number of votes in each of the four categories will be named a P&J Charity Partner for 2024. These partners will be awarded alongside Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.

All five Charity Partners will be awarded an equal share of The P&J Community Fund. Fundraising for the Fund will take place between 30 November 2023 and 30 November 2024. An initial award of £10,000 will be made to each of the five charities at The P&J Charity Gala in January 2024 (full details will be provided to Charity Partners in December 2023.) All further funds raised will be split and awarded to the Charity Partners in December 2024.

Payment of the award will be made within 45 days of notification of the award to the Charity Partner’s nominated bank account. The P&J Community Fund is administrated through the Charities Aid Foundation.

General

Insofar as is permitted by law, DCT will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate any participant in the Campaign or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking part in the Campaign, except where it is caused by negligence of DCT or that of its employees.

DCT may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude a charity from participating in the campaign if there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions.

DCT reserves the right to suspend, cancel or amend the Campaign where it becomes necessary to do so.

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland. If any entrants to the Campaign wish to take court proceedings, then they must do this within the courts in Scotland.

The five P&J charity partners will each benefit from an equal share of The P&J Community Fund. Fundraising for The P&J Community Fund will take place between 30 November 2023 and 30 November 2024. An initial award of £10,000 will be made to each of the five charities at The P&J Charity Gala in February 2024. All further funds raised will be split and awarded to the Charity Partners in December 2024.

Nominating a Charity

To nominate a charity to be part of the Campaign, please complete the nomination form here https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/tag/pj-charities/. You must be 18+ to nominate a charity. The nomination period will run from 6:00am on 14/07/2023 until 6:00pm on 25/08/2023.

Voting, Eligibility and the Award

All nominated charities will be featured on The Press and Journal website: https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/tag/pj-charities/ between 11/08/2023 and 29/10/2023. Additionally, a selection of charities will be featured in The Press and Journal newspaper. Featured charities will be at the discretion of the Editor.

Readers of The P&J will be able to vote for their selected charities between 6:00am on 03/11/2023 and 5:00pm on 27/11/2023. To be eligible to participate in the vote, you must provide your name, email address and postcode. Participation is open to all residents of the following postcodes:

employees of agents or suppliers of DCT or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the Campaign or its administration; or

members of the immediate families or households of the above.


Ownership of Nomination Form

All nomination forms and any accompanying material submitted to DCT will become the property of DCT on receipt and will not be returned. By submitting your nomination form and any accompanying material, you agree to (a) assign to DCT all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and (b) waive all moral rights, in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.

DCT may from time-to-time use all or part of the information provided in your nomination form in promotional materials and other materials associated with The P&J 275 Community Fund and the Campaign. We will not include your name or other personal details included in your nomination form in these materials unless with prior approval from you. By submitting a nomination form, you agree to DCT using the information provided for this purpose.
