Limousin bulls sold to a top of 13,500gn at the Stirling Bull Sales yesterday.
The breed enjoyed a clearance rate of 77% when 56 bulls sold to average £4,862 – up from £4,600 at last year’s sale when 59 bulls exchanged hands.
The sale leader was the reserve senior champion – April-2018 born Dyke Olympian, by Goldies Lordoftherings and out of Dyke Amazon, from the MacGregors at Dyke, Milton of Campsie, Glasgow.
He sold to J & A Galloway Ltd, Lochlyoch Farm, Carmichael, Biggar.
Next best at 10,000gn was the reserve junior bull from the Adam family at Newhouse of Glamis, Forfar.
This black bull, Newhouse Oriental, is by Westhall Jammy. He sold to Cloquhat Farms, Bridge of Cally.
Thereafter 9,000gn was paid three times.
First at this price was the overall champion, as judged by Robert McNee, Over Finlarg, Tealing. This was Dyke Outlaw, from Netherhall Gilbert, from the MacGregors at Dyke. He sold to J W Kay & Co, Gass, Straiton, Ayr. The second, selling to Messrs Renwick Bros, Corsebank, Sanquhar, was Dyke Ovation, by Goldies Lordoftherings, from the MacGregors.
The third lot at 9,000gn, selling to Cobbleheugh Farms, Dinnet, Aboyne, was Ringway Odeon, by Elite Icecream, from P J Henshall, Sarksfield Farm, Lockerbie.
Other leading prices included 8,500gn for Goldies Orlando, by Goldies Juggler, from Dumfries breeder Bruce Goldie. He sold to Huntlyhill Farms, Lanark. The Adams at Newhouse made 8,200gn selling another black bull – Newhouse Ontop, also by Westhall Jammy – to Dunecht Home Farms, Westhill, Aberdeen.
Insch breeders Neil and Stuart Barclay sold Harestone Oklahoma, by Lodge Hamlet, for 7,000gn to Monzie Farms, Crieff.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Reds topped at 7,500gn for April-2018 born St. Fort Xcel, by St. Fort Uproar, from the Mylius family at St Fort Estate, Newport-on-Tay. He sold to South Ormsby Park, Louth, Lincolnshire.
