Johnstons of Elgin, which has been making cashmere and tweed products since 1797, has two new members of its boardroom team.

The additions – both at non-executive director level – are Jenny Houldsworth and Marty Wikstrom.

Ms Houldsworth, responsible for learning and development, is part of the fourth generation of family ownership of Johnstons.

She already has intimate knowledge of the business, having worked in many of its departments over the past decade.

“Johnstons of Elgin is an incredible community to work within,” she said, adding: “It feels right to now be playing a part in the governance of it, 111 years after my late great-grandfather joined the business.”

Ms Wikstrom is a seasoned brand and retail executive, with more than 30 years’ experience in executive roles in the US and Europe.

She currently serves as chairman of Harry’s of London and is also a director of Fortnum & Mason. Previously, she was chief executive for the fashion and accessories brands of Switzerland’s Compagnie Financiere Richemont and also managing director of Harrods after 19 years at US speciality retailer Nordstrom.

Ms Wikstrom said it was a privilege to be joining Johnstons’ “exquisite, family-led business, with over two centuries of heritage and provenance”.

Johnstons employs more than 900 people at its mills in Elgin and Hawick.
