A university graduate has fulfilled her dream of becoming a health visitor after studying online.
Vikki McCafferty from Invergordon graduated with a BN (Hons) in specialist community public health nursing (health visiting) from Robert Gordon University (RGU) yesterday.
The 28-year-old studied for her course while working full-time at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
She said: “I didn’t get a lot of time off because I had to do it by myself. I worked 12-hour shifts and I took my holidays to do my studying, so I didn’t have any holidays. It was hard work but it’s paid off.”
Miss McCafferty previously graduated from RGU in 2007 with a diploma in children’s nursing, and it was while doing that course that she realised she wanted to be a health visitor.
“I started my nursing in 2004 and did my first placement as a health visitor in Garthdee,” she said.
“I thought it was brilliant. I just loved the fact that you’re working in the community and with vulnerable people, so it was really good.”
Armed with her new degree, she will continue working as a health visitor in Tain.
