Back a winner with a fabulous fun-filled day out at Perth Racecourse, writes Susan Welsh

And they’re off! With only a few weeks to go until Perth Racecourse’s first meeting of the 2015 season, plans are well under way to make a day at the races one of the must-do events of the year.

Nothing beats the drama, excitement, glamour and sheer joy of attending a race meeting in person. Watching the horse you’ve placed a wager on come thundering along the track, while the crowd around you cheers on their favourite runners and riders, is one of the most exciting feelings you can experience.

At Perth Racecourse, there are numerous exciting race days to look
forward to this year, with several highlights including the hugely popular Ladies Day in May, and an additional Ladies Day in autumn, plus a collaboration with the award-winning Beautiful Perth to bring a Garden Party Race Meeting to the course.

Thanks to a bit of forward planning by the Press and Journal, there’s no need to worry about making your own way to the Fair City, finding a place to park or even persuading someone to do the driving, because we are running coaches to the Ladies Day event on Thursday, May 14.

Coaches will be picking up passengers in Elgin, Fochabers, Huntly, Inverurie, Aberdeen and Stonehaven, which means that, for many passengers, it will almost be a door-to-door service, as they won’t have to make their way to Aberdeen to join the coach, while the time spent onboard can be used picking out your favourite runners and riders.

And here’s the best bit: tickets for this fun-packed day out are priced at just £40, and include return travel, a grandstand admission ticket, race programme, drink voucher, food voucher and a £2 betting voucher.

The Ladies Day event is one of the biggest draws, so you need to grab your hat, heels and poshest frocks, ladies, and head for the glitzy event. Proceeds from the day will go to the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer, so the day has promised to be bigger and pinker than ever.

There will be seven thrilling jump races, a best-dressed lady competition with a top prize of £1,000, and competitions for the best-dressed male and hat. Along with the racing, there’s a huge programme of entertainment on offer, and a wealth of drink tents, food options and music.
