A giant water slide in the city centre may be more reminiscent of Adelaide than Aberdeen.
But the popular attraction is returning to the Granite City again after last year’s slippery success.
The massive inflatable will be blown up on Belmont Street as part of the council’s In Town Without My Car Day.
During the event, which is now in its seventh year, there will also be opportunities to try hands on science experiments and step inside a giant bubble.
The day is one of several planned to help people find out more about public transport, responsible car use, cycling, and walking alternatives.
The Aberdeen University Circus Skills Society will also demonstrate its juggling and performance skills throughout the day and there will be a chance to step back in time and learn about the history of cycling with the opportunity to ride everything from a penny farthing to a BMX.
Council transport spokesman Ross Grant said the activities were aimed at encouraging more people to leave their cars at home while enjoying the fun the city centre has to offer.
He said: “It is fantastic the waterslide is coming back to the city centre as part of In Town Without My Car Day as it was such a popular event last year.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the event where they can also find out how easy it can be to get about the city using alternative forms of transport to a car.”
City centre community council chair Dustin MacDonald added that the day was a good use of the city’s pedestrianised areas.
He said: “It’s a really positive day . I always take the kids to it and they love it.
“Having the big waterslide adds to the atmosphere on the day.”
The event is taking place in Schoolhill, Belmont Street, Gaelic Lane and Little Belmont Street from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, September 25 and features lots of free, family-friendly activities and information stalls.
Details for booking the waterslide will be made public at a later date.
