A scheme to launch a luxury camping business in the north-east has won planning permission.
Buchan Development Initiative (BDI) has won approval from the local authority to install six camping pods at Aden Country Park to attract tourists to the area.
Is it hoped the group’s scheme, in Mintlaw, will open up new markets for the park through the glamping – or glamour camping – craze.
The project, which has been supported by a grant of £33,548 from the North Aberdeenshire Local Action Group (Leader), will cost about £70,000 to deliver.
And last night, BDI director Charlie Scott said he was pleased that the project could now break ground.
He said: “We are delighted that we have received planning permission for the glamping pods as this will enable us to provide a more varied service for holiday makers.
“It is only through the support of Leader funding and investment from Buchan Development Partnership that we are able to enhance the facility.”
Mr Scott said that over the last two years, there has been an increase in inquiries for rented accommodation at Aden’s caravan park.
The park itself had a record number of visitors last year, attracting 298,368 people to the community.
“By providing sturdier glamping pods, we hope to increase income during the low season which will then be re-invested in the area,” he said.
Leader chairman, Duncan Leece, said: “We are delighted to help make this project happen, and hope that the investment in this exciting project is the first of many in the area.

Businesses and community groups are eligible to apply for cash from Leader for innovative and sustainable projects that meet local development strategy themes of place, connectivity, business competitiveness, better opportunities and co-operation.
To date, it has supported £3.3million of projects across the north-east.
