Crowdfunder launched for Aberdeen’s Phoenix Club

A new community fundraiser to safeguard the future of a group for adults with physical and learning disabilities in Aberdeen has been launched.

The city’s Phoenix Club has been providing its members with opportunities to relax, have fun, socialise and learn for around 40 years.

The club is now under the control of the Inchgarth Community Centre, following the retirement of its long term leader Pam Gallant and many years of operation in Torry.

But the cost of keeping the vital organisation running ever year is around £5,500, and now the new managers have asked the public for their help.

Inchgarth Community Centre has joined forces with the firm SM Marketing to start an online crowdfunder to help reach their goal and continue to support the disabled individuals of the Phoenix Club.

As well as direct donations, cash is also being raised through raffles and sponsorship.

Stuart Mitchell, marketing director of SM Marketing, said: “This is a great chance for everyone to get involved in this great cause, we understand things are tough for many throughout the city so we are so grateful for anything that anyone or any business can donate.

“Every little helps, even the smallest donation.

“Everyone who donates will have their name put on the Friends of the Phoenix scroll which will be displayed at Inchgarth Community Centre.

“The core remit of the Phoenix Club is to promote inclusion, equality and confidence whilst giving the members a safe environment to meet friends, and in these days of political uncertainty I think this is a message we can all get behind.”
