A north-east woman who won a poetry competition to mark the opening of a new budget hotel chain in Peterhead will celebrate her success with a trip to see singing sensation Adele.
Hotel giant Travelodge officially launched its new 63-bedroom branch in the port yesterday afternoon and local woman Lesley Carle joined officials to cut the ribbon on the Chapel Street site.
Travelodge held a poetry competition to mark the opening of their latest site and bosses were impressed with Mrs Carle’s verses which mentioned the town’s “quaint harbour” and former prison as well as the new Aberdeen bypass project.
The prize for the competition is a free night’s stay in a Travelodge of her choice.
Speaking at the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mrs Carle said: “I’m delighted to have won. I am going to see Adele perform in London in the summer so I will use it then.”
The arrival of Travelodge in the north-east port has been heralded by councillors who are battling to regenerate the ailing heart of the town.
The building includes five disabled access bedrooms and space for 24 vehicles in a rear car park. Refurbished shop units on either side of the hotel front remain open for rent.
Local councillor, Alan Gardiner, who was involved in bringing the project forward, has said the fact Travelodge is such a “well-known brand” will lure other firms to the town.
