A north-east teenager who stabbed a man in the chest on his doorstep, causing life-threatening injuries, has been sent to detention for more than two years.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, drove the blade into David Bain’s chest in Aberdeen in April last year.
He had been out with friends at a property which overlooks gardens on Provost Rust Drive when he began exchanging insults with Mr Bain and his wife Carol.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that as matters escalated the teen and another 17-year-old, who also cannot be named, armed themselves with a knife and baseball bat.
They then made their way to the couple’s front door, which was answered by Mrs Bain, who saw the pair’s friends gathered by their car and asked them to leave.
Mr Bain and his friend James McAllister then came to the front of the flat. A fight then broke out.
As one of the 17-year-olds swung at Mr McAllister with the baseball bat, the other engaged Mr Bain and then stabbed him in the chest with the knife.
The group then fled the street.
Mr Bain was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his injuries were serious enough to be deemed life threatening by doctors.
Police were called to the scene of the attack and sealed-off the couple’s home as they began to carry out investigations.
The two teenagers were subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder.
That charge was later reduced to assault and they subsequently pleaded guilty last month, returning to Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday to be sentenced.
Sheriff Jack Brown sentenced the teen who carried out the knife attack to 27 months detention.
The teenager who carried out the attack with a baseball bat was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and placed under supervision for two years.
