A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to three years and six months in jail in relation to a housebreaking in Aberdeen last December.
Richard McPherson, known as Cowan, stole a number of electrical items and personal items valued at around £500 from the property in the Spital area of the city.
Detective Inspector Fionnuala McPhail said: “We know that housebreaking is one of the most harrowing crimes that people can experience and I am pleased to see that the seriousness of the offence has been reflected in the sentence.
“We are dedicated to targeting those who choose to involve themselves in acquisitive crime and we will continue to do all we can to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice.
“We need the support of our communities and I would continue to urge anyone who sees anything unusual or suspicious in their neighbourhood to contact police on 101.
“There are steps you can take to reduce your chance of becoming a victim of acquisitive crime and I would take this opportunity to urge people to review their home security and follow crime prevention advice.
“Always keep all your windows and doors locked even if you are at home.”
He was sentenced yesterday at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
