Residents in Aberdeen’s west end are being urged to join their local community council- with eight seats currently vacant.

There will be an election held for Queen’s Cross and Harlaw Community Council on March 5.

Voting will take place from 8am to 8pm within the area on the day unless there are eight or fewer candidates in which case they will be elected unopposed.

Anyone interested in becoming a community councillor should complete a nomination form and return it to the returning officer at the townhouse on Broad Street no later than 4pm on Thursday, February 6 and the withdrawal of any nomination must be intimated to the Returning Officer no later than 4pm on Wednesday, February 12.

Forms are available from the reception desk at the townhouse or the central library.

Queens Cross, Ashley and Countesswells councillor Martin Greig said:  “This is a community council with a strong history of commitment on behalf of local residents.

“There is always much business to deal with including controversial planning applications and, more broadly, looking out for the welfare of the area.

“The dedicated group of volunteers has a reputation for giving much valued time and public service over the years.

“Hopefully, there will be enough people prepared to come forward to ensure that the community council can continue its important role of representing the local interest.”
