Warning over World Cup lotto scam in north-east

A warning has been issued over a World Cup e-mail scam circulating around the north-east.

The Fifa World Cup Online Lottery Letter has been sent out since the start of the year.

The scam advises people they have won £900,000 and claims to be from the world’s governing football body.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “We would advise anyone who receives a letter like this to put it straight in the bin.

“These scams are commonly used not only to con people out of money, but also to gather personal information which can then be used to commit identity fraud.”
