Two north-east men joined forces last weekend to help raise over £12,000 for those who had their homes destroyed by Storm Frank.

Bill Hopkins and Graham Watson held an auction and darting extravaganza last Friday night, where more than 150 people turned out to watch professional darts players, John Henderson and Ross Montgomery battle against local players in aid of flood relief.

The event, which took place at Kemnay Hall, also saw a number of prestigious items being auctioned, including a boxing glove signed by former world champion, Ken Buchanan.

Graham Watson, the main organiser, said: “The amount raised at the event is beyond my wildest dreams.”

In addition to the fund-raising evening, Mr Hopkins helped boost funds further by selling two House of Commons whisky bottles, signed by Prime Minister David Cameron and Scottish Conservative Leader, Ruth Davidson.

The bottles were successfully sold for £3,400 to businessman Terry Cobban, who responded: “I am delighted to support the fundraising efforts and there is nothing better than knowing you are helping local people who did not deserve the carnage in their lives.”

Mr Hopkins added: “I have heard so many stories of goodwill from local people and businesses supporting people affected by these floods.

All monies raised will be added to the larger pot which is being administered by Inverurie District Round Table.
