A woman had her wrist broken by her partner after being accused of being attracted to his son, a court heard yesterday.

Kenny McLaren, 41, of Old School Court, Findochty, escaped a jail sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.

He had admitted assaulting Clair Birkhead on July 25 last year in Cale House, Millburn Road, Inverness, to her severe injury.

McLaren also pleaded guilty to breaching a special bail condition, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting Ms Birkhead.

He was placed under supervision for a year and ordered to do 240 hours of unpaid community work.

At an earlier hearing, the court was told that McLaren and Ms Birkhead were visiting his 24 year old son, Andrew and all three had been drinking.

Fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart said that police were initially called in response to a complaint about loud music.

But as soon as the officers had left Ms Birkhead went to one of the bedrooms to lie down. Some time later, Mclaren came in and accused her of being attracted to his son, the court was told.

Mr Urquhart added: “An argument ensued which culminated with McLaren taking hold of her and pulling her from the bed onto the floor.”

Defence solicitor Clare Russell said her client, who was no longer in relationship with his victim, was addressing his alcohol issues.
