Police are urging motorists to be aware of motorcyclists as summer approaches
Operation Zenith, which promotes motorcycle safety awareness and enforce legislation relating to motoring offences, was launched across the country last month.
Officers across the north will now be stepping up their high-visibility patrols on popular routes, speaking to bikers and other drivers.
They hope it will improve attitudes of road users, promote safer driving – from both bikers and motorists, while also cracking down on those flouting the law.
Inspector Gus Stewart, of the divisional road policing unit, said: “Over the coming months, the Highlands and islands sees an increase in motorcyclists, who travel around the area to experience the open roads and view the stunning scenery.
“In order to make our roads safer for everyone, we are keen to raise awareness and inform all road users of the increased risk of road traffic collisions involving motorcyclists over the spring and summer months.”
He added that motorcyclists would always be more vulnerable on the roads than car drivers.
He said the main aim of the campaign is to to reduce the number of road deaths and make Scotland’s roads safer.
