A householder is facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of damage to his house after a car crashed into it.
Kirkhill resident David Busby said he was “just relieved that no one” was hurt in the accident which happened in the village at about 5.30pm on Tuesday.
His home in the Newton Park area of the village was taped off yesterday as they waited for a structural engineer to assess the damage and check if the building is safe for them to stay in.
Mr Busby was at work when the accident happened – but his wife Stephanie and daughter Collette Adamiec were in the house when the car clattered into the building.
It happened after a neighbour apparently lost control while performing a maneuvere in the street, before running through the garden and hitting the front of the building.
The man, who is in his 80s, was checked over at the scene and escaped without injury.
Residential social care worker Mr Busby said: “I was at work but my wife and daughter were at home when it happened.
“My daughter was closest to it and she said she heard this mighty clatter and then when she looked out the car was there.”
He added: “My wife called me and said ‘I think you ought to come home’.
“I was trying to visualise what she had told me the whole way home. I couldn’t believe it.”
Mr Busby was yesterday waiting at home for engineers to arrive and assess the damage.
He said it did not appear “too severe” but part of the wall had been pushed in where the car collided with it causing a ledge.
Emergency services spent nearly three hours on Tuesday evening working at the scene, with two fire crews from Inverness and another from Beauly working at the scene.
Mr Busby added: “I’m just relieved nobody is badly hurt.
“It could quite easily have been more serious if he hit the house without having turned slightly.
“He was so apologetic but I just told him these things can happen.”
