An Inverness man who broke his leg in a freak accident at a city pub is seeking legal advice following his ordeal.

Garry Mackay had to undergo a three hour operation to insert two bolts and a metal rod in his leg after the catastrophe at Johnny Foxes.

Now the 28-year-old barber is considering lodging a claim against the bar after staff allegedly failed to phone for an ambulance.

The accident happened while he and friends were listening to a covers band in the bar on a Saturday night.

Mr Mackay said a woman ran up to him and jumped on him, wrapping her legs around him.

He fell badly and his leg snapped in two places.

Mr Mackay claims door staff carried him to a bench outside the bar and left him there, ignoring his screams for an ambulance.

Eventually a friend drove him to Raigmore Hospital, where the fracture was confirmed.

Mr Mackay said: “I knew it was bad as soon as it happened. I heard it break and the pain was unbelievable.

“When the bouncers got to me I was screaming but they kept trying to move me. They just put me on a bench.”

He added: “I just want them to admit what they did wrong.”

Mr Mackay is now recuperating at his brother Ross’s house and expects to be off work for up to three months.

His mother Kath has contacted a solicitor for advice about the incident.

The owner of Johnny Foxes, Don Lawson, said he was reviewing staff procedures following the incident.

And he said he had been in contact with Mr Mackay’s family over the claims.

Mr Lawson said: “Perhaps he should not have been moved and we are now reviewing our protocols.

“We did the best we could. My concern is now for him and I am in touch with his family.”
