Moray building firms took two of the top prizes at a recent national awards event.

Elgin-based Springfield Properties won the main Home Builder of the Year prize at the Homes for Scotland awards ceremony in Edinburgh on Friday.

And head of Elgin’s Robertson Group, Bill Robertson CBE, received a lifetime achievement award in recognition of over 50 years in the industry.

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead was quick to commend the local firms on their success.

He said: “Springfield’s success at the awards is a testament to the hard work and innovation of both the management team and the wider staff, as they continue to provide high quality homes for thousands of people across Scotland.”

Moray’s MP Angus Robertson added: “I am delighted to see Moray based businesses dominating these awards, which are amongst the most prestigious in the house-building sector.

“The hard work, particularly, in the challenging economic environment of recent years is a huge credit to them and the awards thoroughly deserved.”

Mr Robertson was made commander of the most excellent order of the British empire, in 2007 for services to the construction sector.

To help ease Moray’s teacher-recruitment crisis, Springfield Properties recently joined with Moray Council to offer rent-free accommodation to teachers applying to work in the area.

Springfield chairman Sandy Adam said: “Everyone at Springfield is excited by the idea that we could help to bring more teachers to Moray.”
