Ross County fan view: Celtic fans let their club down

Ross County can take pride in their performance in the final game before the World Cup break at Celtic Park, where going 1-0 up sent a small contingent of Staggies on top of the world.

However, not all parties can leave Parkhead with their heads held high.

A large number of Celtic fans showed the utmost levels of contempt as they booed and chanted their way through what was an embarrassingly poorly observed minute’s silence.

Of course, no one is saying that people must agree with the principles of the poppy and holding a minute’s silence.

But how hard can it be as grown adults to just show some respect and be quiet for 60 seconds?

The Green Brigade’s boycott was a much more respectable way of going around sticking to their beliefs.

Absence rather than disrespect.

Malky’s men were still able to break forward on occasion

They waited outside the ground until the silence was over, then filled their safe-standing section as the game kicked off.

Celtic named former players of their club who gave their life to the war, yet thousands of supporters sung through the silence despite knowing the families of those former players would most likely have been watching on.

Ross County were excellent to a man going up against the reigning champions despite going down 2-1.

Despite having to remain deep and compact to nullify the hosts, Malky’s men were still able to break forward on occasion and create chances.

There was mass controversy over the penalty awarded to Ross County as both the referee and VAR deemed a handball from Matt O’Riley.

Whether it should have been given or not, it was one of the best feelings to celebrate a wonderfully dispatched spot kick from David Cancola in front of 50,000 at Celtic Park.
