Young judges lined up for Tarland Show

A cohort of “young” judges has been lined up for the cattle, sheep and goat sections at this year’s Tarland Show.

Show chairman Andy Smith, who farms at Bogentassie, near Lumphanan, said the judges had been selected to help promote and encourage the next generation of farmers.

In the cattle section the judge for the Aberdeen-Angus, Blonde and British Blue entries is Mark Wattie from Mains of Tonley, Alford.

The Limousin, Charolais and Any Other Breed sections will be judged by Darren Irvine, Braehead Farm, Drummuir, Keith, while Highland cattle will be assessed by Dexter Logan of Greenhead Farm, Alva, Clackmannanshire.

Cross cattle will be judged by Sandy Hunter from Wedderburn, Huntly, and carcase cattle and sheep on the hoof will be assessed by Fiona Wilson of Kirkton, Mintlaw, Peterhead.

In the sheep lines, the Blackface, cross and sheepdogs will be judged by Rory Hood, Glenarm Farm, Glen Clova, Kirriemuir.

The Any Other Breed sheep, young handlers and Young Farmers judge is Scott Chapman, Rowanbrae, Forglen, Turriff, and Texel and Suffolks will be judged by James Scott, Crossroads Croft, Netherbrae, Fisherie.

The judge for the goats section is Vicky Gardiner of Hillhead Farm, Glen of Newmill, Keith.

Entries for all sections in the show must be submitted by Wednesday August 2.

The show takes place on Saturday August 12 at Show Park, Tarland.
