Texel gimmer leads way at Highland Ladies sale

A Texel gimmer from Robbie Wilson’s Milnbank flock led the way at the Highland Ladies sale at Dingwall and Highland Marts.

Sale leader at 4,000gn was Mr Wilson’s champion, a gimmer by the £60,000 Strathbogie Yes Sir, out of a ewe by Glenside Valhalla from his flock at North Dorlaithers, Turriff.

She is an ET sister to a 16,000gn gimmer and sold carrying a pair to the 15,000gn Knock Yardsman to Jim Innes for his Strathbogie flock, Dunscroft, Huntly.

Next best at 1,200gn when sold to R Harcus, Enyhallow, Conon Bridge, was another Strathbogie Yes Sir daughter from Mr Wilson. She sold carrying twins to the 13,000gn Ellen Valley Caesar.

The reserve champion from Milnbank sold for 1,000gn to the pre-sale judge Kathleen Davidson and family, Corsairtly, Keith. This was a gimmer by the 9,000gn Holylee Acrobat, out of a Teiglum Tornado dam. She is due with twins to the 28,000gn Auldhouseburn Billy The Kid.

Willie Knox and sons, Graeme and Andrew, from Mid Haddo, Fyvie, Turriff, also sold a Texel gimmer at 1,200gn to Charlie Angus, Oldfield, Thurso.

This was a Tamnamony Applejack daughter, bred out of a ewe by Castlecairn Union Lido, which is due with twins to the 8,000gn Hexel Born To Be Wild.

Selling for 1,000gn to George Jack, Woodend, Killearnan, Muir of Ord, was a gimmer by Hilltop Angus, in-lamb to Knap Bam Bam from Roy Peterkin, Barnyards, Beauly.

The Suffolk championship was awarded to a Castleisle Spotlight-sired gimmer from Jimmy Douglas, Woodhead, Cairness, Fraserburgh. Carrying a pair to Glenagh Winston, she is bred out of a Stockton Sundance ewe and sold to K Gunn, Shop Farm, Scotscalder.

Mr Douglas stood reserve with a two-crop ewe by Cairness High Achiever, carrying a pair to the same sire. She made 600gn to E Fraser, 12 Torgormack, Beauly.

The Mair family of the Aviemore Beltex flock at Muirfield, Everton of Auchry, Cuminestown, sold a recipient for 950gn to Charles Copland, Overhouse, Orkney. This was an embryo by the 5,000gn Bailey Brook C47.

They also sold their Beltex champion, Aviemore Dizzy, for 800gn to Alistair McCarthy, Seafield View, Mey. This was an Airyolland Avicii gimmer, carrying a single to the 3,800gn Heathery Hall Campbell.
