Fears over grounding of Aberdeen to Faro flights laid to rest

Budget airline Ryanair has insisted it has not axed flights from Aberdeen to Faro, in Portugal, despite visitors to its website being unable to book them.

The Dublin-based carrier recently called time on its fledgling Aberdeen-Malta service.

Passengers who have tried, unsuccessfully, to book summer schedule flights from the Granite City to Faro next year were left wondering if that route had been scrapped too.

Ryanair launched its 2020 summer schedule at the start of last month, announcing 14 new routes.

A spokeswoman for the airline said it was still finalising plans for after the winter schedule ends in March.

The summer 2020 schedule for flights to and from Faro – the gateway to popular holiday hotspots in the Algarve – will be finalised “very shortly”, she added.

She also confirmed Ryanair will continue with its two Spanish routes from Aberdeen, serving Alicante and Malaga, during summer 2020.

Alicante is a year-round route, while the flights to Malaga will return at the end of March after Ryanair cut them for commercial reasons over the winter.
