Out of this world movies are coming to Aberdeen to celebrate the achievements of the UK’s space programme.
Supported by the UK Space Agency and in partnership with Aberdeen University, Belmont Filmhouse is embarking on five days of screenings to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
Taking place later this month, Space Week will host a varied programme of space-themed films.
The season will feature the “pioneers, the unsung heroes and complex characters and the hopes and fears of mankind’s greatest ambition.”
Researchers and speakers from Aberdeen University’s department of physics will provide introductions to the films which include, among others, Hidden Figures, Apollo 11 and In the Shadow of the Moon.
.Space Week highlights the influence of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (Stem) subjects on cinema and the film industry, allowing audiences the opportunity to learn more about the solar system and the world they live in, and the achievements of the UK Space Agency and scientists based in Aberdeen.
Space Week, supported by the UK Space Agency, runs at Belmont Filmhouse from July 20-24.
