What: The National Trust for Scotland’s President’s Ball which has raised more than half a million pounds for the trust.

Where: Castle Fraser

Who: Around 460 people attended this year’s ball, hosted by Rory Bremner, with performances from violinist Nicola Benedetti and jazz pianist/vocalist Judy Carmichael.

Why: It is the first time that the ball has been staged in the north-east. Events held in the central belt in 2010 and 2012 have raised significant amounts, but this year’s effort has surpassed all expectations and previous records, thanks to the generosity of so many.

Johnston Carmichael and Mearns & Gill provided support on the financial and event management elements respectively and the Marcliffe at Pitfodels provided accommodation and transport for the entertainers.

Trust chief executive Kate Mavor said: “The trust is privileged to enjoy such staunch support from so many generous donors. This huge sum is fantastic and will enable us to take forward conservation projects all over Scotland”.
