February the 14th is the most romantic day of the year, and what could be better than spending it with your love in one of Scotland’s fantastic cities.

Take a break from the usual flowers and chocolates this year and treat your significant other to a break away from the usual everyday stresses and strains.

This is also a particularly good idea if you forgot to mark the occasion last year and are still in the bad books.

We take a look at Scotland’s most romantic city destinations for you to enjoy a Valentines getaway this February.

Edinburgh

The capital and one of the most beautiful cities in Scotland, Edinburgh is the perfect place for a romantic weekend.

During the day why not take a trip to the famous Edinburgh Zoo, home  to the Tian Tian and Tang Guang the Giant Pandas. It’s also worth watching the adorable Penguin Parade.

Alternatively take a stroll up Arthur’s Seat and enjoy spectacular views of the city in a romantic outdoor setting.

By night visit one of Edinburgh’s vast array of restaurants, from Michelin star to independent bistros to choose from.

Glasgow

Pick out the perfect Valentines gift for your loved one by visiting one of the many shops in Glasgow’s main shopping area Buchanan Street.

Filled with designer and high street stores, there is something for everyone regardless of your budget.

By night take a trip to the West End of the city and walk along the cobbled, fairy light lit Ashton Lane. A quirky area of the city which is home to a number of cosy bars and restaurants, creating the perfect setting for a romantic evening.

Inverness

What could be more romantic than spending your Valentines weekend surrounded by the beautiful Scottish Highlands?

Inverness is the perfect location for a slightly quieter break, giving you the opportunity to explore the great outdoors alongside all the amenities of the city.

Experience the beauty of Loch Ness and its surrounding scenery on one of the many fantastic cruise trips on offer. Plus, don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for Nessie as you glide across the glistening water.
