Skye aim to have profitable away day

Skye will set out at 7.30am tomorrow for their long trek to Dalmally to face Glenorchy in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup first round tie.

“We won’t get home until after midnight, so we’re keen to grab a result to justify a long day,” said manager John MacLeod.

Full back Steven Morrison is off on holiday but Neil MacVicar comes in.

Goalkeeper and former Highland League footballer Jamie Gannon is relishing his comeback season for Skye and has yet to concede a goal in four North First Division games, with his side winning them all.

New Skye manager MacLeod said: “Jamie is doing extremely well and you can’t argue with keeping clean sheets.

“The whole defence, however, has been playing soundly as a unit.”

Teenager Alastair, the manager’s son, came in at wing back last week and stays in the squad.

Glenorchy are disappointed that experienced campaigner John McNulty has picked up a one game ban which keeps him out of the tie.

Fort William, four times Camanachd Cup winners in succession until three years ago, are playing in the opening round for the first time in many years. Fort will be without international Niall MacPhee, sent off last week, for their visit to Glasgow Mid Argyll.

Scott Douglas returns to give Strathglass a boost for their tie with Inverness at Cannich in a duel of North First Division outfits.

Strath manager Calum Duff said: “We gave 14-year-old Donald Price a run out last week and he did very well. He’s earned his place in the squad for the tie.”

Dougie Rankin’s experience will be important for the city side but Strath have rattled in 13 goals in three unbeaten league outings.
