VIDEO: Man chokes on salmon…. Finds out he has cancer

A man has said choking on his dinner saved his life after the incident led to a diagnosis of underlying cancer.

David Critchley was left struggling to breathe at a family birthday part when a piece of salmon became lodged in his throat.

The traumatic experience prompted the 74-year-old to visit his family doctor after years of increasing symptoms of heartburn.

Mr Critchley was referred for an endoscopy which revealed he had been suffering from oesophago-gastric cancer.

He said: “I had been getting indigestion for years, but then I started getting it more often and began getting heartburn as well.
