A three-day annual festival thrilled audiences with music and art over the weekend.

More than 1,000 people flocked to venues across Banff and Macduff for the eight Coast Festival, which this year was based on the theme of light.

On Friday, visitors got a sneak peak of some of the exhibitions while enjoying musical performance and nibbles in Macduff.

Other activities over the weekend included a special late-night light show in Banff’s castle grounds, which cast the building in different colours and shapes.

There was also an exhibition of glass sculptures by Japanese artist Keiko Mukaide and Scottish artist Clare Wilson, as well as family-friendly creative workshops, theatre shows and storytelling sessions.

Last night, Coast chairwoman Alison Simpson said this year’s programme had “raised the bar”.

“It really has been remarkably good – we have had tremendous feedback,” she said.

“Everything has been really well received, and we feel that we’ve really raised the bar.

“People seem to be really happy with the variety and quality of what we’re doing. It’s extraordinary how different people’s reactions are. Some people are just absolutely bowled over by some of the things.”

There will now be a series of workshops throughout the year, which will involve some of the artists who took part in the festival.
