Vandals cause havoc around Fraserburgh

A north-east councillor has slammed vandals who have wreaked havoc around Fraserburgh.

Rugby posts in the town’s James Ramsay Park were torn out and a nearby bus shelter smashed in the latest incidents to hit the town.

Councillor Brian Topping, who is also the chairman of Fraserburgh’s community safety group, has now branded the people behind the attacks as “disgraceful”.

His comments come just days after a waste bin was left in pieces at the town’s beach and life rings were ripped from their posts.

“It’s just mindless vandalism,” he said.

“I’m really very concerned, because they seem to be deliberately damaging things for their own amusement.

“These life rings have been hauled out and it is dangerous, more than anything else. This is people’s lives we’re talking about. It really is outrageous and could well cost someone dearly.

“I just sincerely hope that it isn’t a family member or friend of the people involved in damaging them that is affected.”

Mr Topping, who helped find the town’s rugby players a local pitch, added that he hoped anyone with knowledge of who was behind the attacks would encourage them to think twice in future.

He said: “These things cost tax payers money, and the people involved should really be ashamed of themselves – as should their friends and families.

“These things are here for a purpose, for people to use. By all means have your fun, but have some consideration for others.”

Fraserburgh Rugby Club was formed in 2014 after local men appealed for members to create a team.

The attack on its rugby posts has left one goal damaged.
