A group of north-east rotarians have amassed thousands of pounds from their fundraising efforts during the last month.

The Aboyne and Upper Deeside rotary club managed to raise over £2500 for the following their efforts at a variety of events throughout the area.

The organisation, which has 40 members, helped out at a number of recent high-profile events, including the Aboyne and Ballater Highland Games, Ballater Victoria Week and the Tarland Show.

Alistair Tong, a member of the group, said: “The motto for rotarians is to always put ‘service above self’ and that’s exactly what we do.

“We assist with directing cars in car parks and hold charity stalls at all of these events. We’ve run quizzes and raffles and we even supplied the village idiot for the stocks on Ballater Green.

“We are people who have a little bit of spare time on our hands and would like to give back to the communities that we live in.”

The rotarians work closely with a lot of organisations in the area, including Aboyne Academy, with whom they run competitions for a young photographer and young musician of the year.

The club has also supported a large number of projects such as Aboyne tennis club, the Scottish air ambulance and the Tarland development group, while aiding in funding flood recovery.

The money raised during the past month will be added to the club’s central fund and local organisations can apply if they need support.
