The north-east blossomed at the weekend as one of the region’s biggest gardening events returned to the Granite City.
Hundreds of people turned up over two days for the Royal Horticultural Society of Aberdeen’s (RHSA’s) Summer Flower Show at Duthie Park.
The event ran across Saturday and Sunday and saw the top gardeners from across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and beyond, battle it out to be named the top growers.
A huge variety of buds were on display from potted specimens to cacti, bonsai, chrysanthemums, dahlias and alpine and rock plants.
There were also exhibitions of vegetables, fruit, wines, beers, preserves and handcrafts; whilst a photography competition took place.
This year the summer show teamed up with the Scottish branch of the National Vegetable Society (NVS) for its annual show, combining them into one large event.
Stalls selling flowers and produce also proved a hit with the crowd.
Yesterday chairwoman of the RHSA, Hazel Main, said: “We have had a very successful show, the weather has been very good.
“We have also had the Scottish branch of the National Vegetable Society here as well. It has been very successful.
“Across all the different classes, there has been something in them all. Overall we have had a very, very colourful event.
“Certainly we had a few hundred people as far as I am aware. It was a really good turnout. There was people from all over the north-east, from Peterhead and Cruden Bay, quite an area.
“I think everybody seems to have enjoyed themselves, there is a lot of good comments coming back.”
The City of Aberdeen Clydesdale Horse Show and Aberdeen Highland Pony Show also took place at Duthie Park at the weekend.
Aberdeen’s lord provost, George Adam, said: “It was great to see all the prize winners getting their various trophies for flowers or crafts, there was a lot of really good work on display.
“There were certainly winners from quite far afield. I recall somebody from Cumbria winning. So as well as local gardeners there were entrants from further afield.
“And that just adds to the standard of produce on display and keeps the competition to a high standard.
“The two horse shows were also on at Duthie Park, so that attracted a lot of visitors too.”
