There is gouda news for Aberdeen cheese lovers with the news a city shop has been saved by new owners.
The Gourmet Cheese Company, run by Michael and Kathryn Figueiredo, moved into the premises in Rosemount Place this week, formerly used by cheese monger I J Mellis.
The latter company vacated the shop at the end of last week after deciding not to renew the lease on the store for “operational reasons”.
However, they were keen to work with a new business in the area and have agreed a deal to supply their products to the Gourmet Cheese Company.
I J Mellis director, Karen Mellis, is happy with the deal.
She said: “They have taken over the lease and there has been little disruption to trading.
“It’s good they have moved into the store, they are going to be buying our cheese and, as a wholesaler, I look forward to helping them.”
Mrs Mellis also revealed that, despite the change in store operator, there have been no redundancies.
Bill Cormie, councillor for Rosemount and Midstocket, is pleased that Mellis cheese will still be available to north east customers and that the empty shop was filled so quickly.
He added: “It’s good news all round for the cheese shop and it’s good that Mellis cheese will continue to be sold.
“We are very fortunate to have excellent shops in Rosemount that are well used by locals and folk from further afield.
“We are very fortunate not to have many empty units in Rosemount either. So it is good that this unit has been filled so quickly with somebody moving in almost right away.”
