Inverurie business owners are gearing up to go to polls to decide if the town will become one of the next Business Improvement Districts in the north-east.
Inverurie Bid co-ordinator, Ashley Wilson, feels the tide is turning towards a yes after speaking to some who have changed from a definite ‘no’.
Mrs Wilson explained that she has been out and about speaking to the business owners in the proposed Bid area over the last six months, answering questions and canvassing opinions which have all helped form the We are Inverurie business plan which was launched on May 9.
She said: “Over the past month as people have found out more about the benefits the Bid would bring to Inverurie – people have moved from a firm ‘no’ to a very firm ‘yes’.”
Inverurie is the latest place in Scotland to sign up to develop a Bid programme and it has been proposed that all eligible businesses and organisations in the Inverurie area contribute a financial levy to the scheme – bringing in an estimated £100,000 per year towards projects.
Barry Sangster from Inspire Flooring said he was initially unsure but he has since changed his mind, he said: “It’s a no brainer for me and everyone else to get involved in this.
“The amount of funding which can be raised from a small levy payment from each business is incredible and will give us a huge amount of investment for advertising, marketing and promotion of the town, and that’s only one part.”
Ian Sinclair, chairman of the We are INverurie steering committee said: “We are so pleased that people are asking questions and we encourage anyone who has questions to get in touch.”
