Tickets for the inaugural Pride of Inverurie Awards go on sale today.

The new scheme aimed at boosting civic pride in the Aberdeenshire town has been overwhelmed with nominations from the public.

Finalists for the eight categories have now been short-listed with the winners being announced at the Town Hall event on Friday, August 25.

The awards recognise the very best of the town and surrounding area, celebrating traders, community champions, tourist spots and local heroes.

Chair of Inverurie Events, Trevor Hart, last night said: “We have had a great response for nominations, especially for the young achiever – it was extremely hard short-listing them.

“It is so good to see so many young people helping in their community and volunteering their time – they are vital for our future.”

The categories are for best businessman, best businesswoman, sports personality, unsung hero, young achiever, community champion, tourism hot spot and lifetime achievement accolades.

Each award has been sponsored by a business in the town, and the three finalists for each category will have a minute-long video shown at the black-tie gala night before the winner of each is announced.

Bancon Homes have announced they will be the main sponsors of the event.

Tickets can be bought at Strachan’s on West High Street, and are priced at £40 per person including a 3-course dinner and welcome drink.
