An Aberdeenshire rotary club has handed over close to £20,000 to dozens of local charities.
Westhill Rotary Club has made the announcement as a new leadership team takes the helm for the next year.
Among the charities to benefit from last year’s funding were Clic Sargent, Aberdeen Mountain Rescue, the Sandpiper Trust, the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) roof garden and the Westhill Senior Citizens Party.
Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, Macmillan Cancer Support and RNLI Aberdeen also received donations.
The club’s new president Moira Gordon – the first ever woman to hold the post – has said fundraising remains a central part of what the rotary club does.
She said: “As a community-based yet international organisation we have a wide range of demands on our charitable funds and we seek to balance these across the year.
“Our initial thoughts are always to support events in the local district such as the senior citizens party and the various youth events that we arrange with the local schools including quizzes, chess club, young musician and youth leadership awards.
“On top of this we seek to foster international goodwill with support for various disaster and medical charities including the important End Polio Now campaign, which is very close to achieving its target of eliminating this debilitating disease from the planet.”
The club fundraises through a range of ways including stalls at local events such as the Westhill Gala, the Echt Show and the Aboyne Games.
It also organises one-off nights such as music concerts in order to boost its charity coffers each year.
Next month, the group will host a fundraising curry night for the first time where there will be also be Indian music and dance followed by a disco.
The event will be held at the Holiday Inn, in Westhill on September 30.
