Members of the public are being given the chance to cycle beside a world-leading athlete for a leading children’s charity.
Round-the-world record breaker Mark Beaumont is preparing to travel 265 miles in just two days to raise money for The Archie Foundation.
In April he will set off from the charity’s Dundee base and head for its Inverness centre then, after an overnight rest stop, will complete his journey by cycling to its flagship facility in Aberdeen.
And the 36-year-old is looking for 30 people to join him on the gruelling challenge.
Since being founded at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital in 2000, The Archie Foundation has expanded with bases in the Highlands and Tayside.
All of the money it raises goes to the nearest sick kids’ wards for everything from building projects, medical equipment and training to books and toys to be used by the youngsters.
Beaumont has made a name for himself with a series of impressive cycling feats.
These included his 18,000-mile adventure around the world on two wheels, which he completed in 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes in 2017.
He said: “Archie supports children’s hospitals in Tayside, Grampian and Highlands, and one way in which they do this is by providing emergency funding to families that have a child receiving hospital care.
“Be that for travel, accommodation, or just a cup of tea and a chat for some support in a much needed time, this funding is invaluable.”
