The streets of Stonehaven were treated to a peculiar a sight this week.
A “sizeable” log cabin made its way through the town as part of its relocation from Dunnottar Avenue to Carronhill School.
As part of the Stonehaven Flood Protection scheme, work is being undertaken on properties on the street.
The owners of the cabin decided it could be donated to the nearby school.
Residents looked on as a 250 tonne crane was enlisted to lift the cabin from Dunnottar Avenue, before it was loaded on a lorry for a short but carefully-managed journey to its new home.
The school on the move
The school will now consider how best to use the cabin, which could be converted into a skills base for senior pupils.
Infrastructure Services Committee chairman, councillor Peter Argyle, said: “While it may have been easier to dismantle or dispose of the structure, the project team has gone the extra mile to ensure an ongoing and local use for the cabin.”
Construction of the Stonehaven Flood Protection Scheme began in March this year, with the main works due to be complete in September 2020.
