A Stonehaven family has hosted their own rock concert to honour a beloved family member and raise funds for Myeloma UK.

More than 300 people enjoyed the sold-out Rock against Myeloma event in memory of mum-of-three Julie Forbes.

The beautician was just 50 when she died in April after a five-year fight with blood cancer.

Her husband Stewart and three sons, Michael, James and Jack, were determined to bring the community together to celebrate not just her life, but love of music, and are delighted at the success of the concert which featured four local bands.

The family recruited the musical talents of The Shackles, The New Routines, Easy Peelers and Manuka Honey to perform at Stonehaven Town Hall.

Son Michael took to the stage as guitarist and singer for the Easy Peelers, and said he was thrilled with how the night had gone.

The 21 year-old said: “The night was amazing, the place was filled and everyone had a great time.

“I think Mum would have been over the moon, I’m not sure she would have believed we could pull this together if I’m honest.

“But with the help of all her family and friends, we made it a really good night for those in attendance.”

Ensuring it was a family affair, Mr Forbes even had a go at rapping while sons James and Jack helped set up the technical equipment.

Aunties and family friends worked the stalls to ensure there was plenty of offer for the packed-out crowd.

Local businesses from across Stonehaven donated gifts for the raffle, further boosting funds.

All the money raised will go Myeloma UK, a charity which looks to end the currently incurable condition.

The disease accounts for about 15% of blood cancers with 17,500 people across the UK suffering from the condition.
