A man has been charged by police after allegedly using his mobile phone to call 999 – to report his mobile phone stolen.
The Macduff man is believed to have made the call earlier this week.
He now faces allegations of misusing the emergency hotline and has been reported to procurator fiscal.
A police spokeswoman last night warned the public against making prank calls.
“Hoax calls divert our resources unnecessarily,” she said.
“People irresponsible enough to be tempted to make these kinds of calls should realise that while they are wasting our time officers may not be available to answer genuine emergencies.
“Any unnecessary delay in attending an emergency call could easily mean the difference between life and death.”
