Police appeal after thieves steal £600 worth of property in Cove

Police are appealing for witnesses after a string of night-time thefts in the Cove area of Aberdeen this week.

Thieves broke into four cars and a shed in Cove Circle and Cove Gardens making off with about £600 worth of property, including a mountain bike.

The raids are thought to have taken place between 5pm on Monday, February 2, and 8.30am on Tuesday, February 3.

Electrical gadgets and personal items were stolen from the vehicles and a mountain bike was stolen from a shed.

A police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information regarding these incidents and advising the public to take care when it comes to their own security.”

Sergeant Stuart Fisher, of the Nigg community policing team, said officers were “following a positive line of inquiry” regarding the incidents.

He said: “I’d also like to remind the public to ensure that all vehicles and properties are secured at all times, even when you are inside.

“Simple acts such as keeping your valuables out of sight will also remove any easy chances for thieves.”

Councillor Callum McCaig, who represents Kincorth, Nigg and Cove, said the thefts were “disappointing” for the community.

He said: “There have been occasional incidents like this in the past especially around winter when the dark nights are in.

“Clearly it is very disappointing that this would happen in what is usually a very safe community.

“I would encourage anyone with information to contact the police and I hopefully they can catch the people behind this.”
