The owner of a dog apparently attacked in his own back garden has called time on her stay in Peterhead.
Yorkshire terrier Kai suffered a fractured skull after allegedly being thrown 6ft over a wall in the town’s Queen Street earlier this year.
Now his owner, Michelle Mackie, has revealed the incident has left the family feeling unsafe – and that they will move back to the central belt next month.
Ms Mackie said: “We’ve handed in the notice in the house and we’re moving back down to Greenock – we’re just not happy anymore.
“My son doesn’t feel safe and, to be honest, neither do I. I just feel really uncomfortable. I would rather just go down home where I have more support.”
After news of Kai’s injuries spread around the town, horrified residents rallied together to raise more than £1,000 to help cover his vet bills and Ms Mackie’s travel to and from Glasgow, where he was being treated.
But just days after the dog returned home to Peterhead, a metal-tipped arrow was found in the garden.
“It obviously didn’t help with Kai getting injured and then finding the arrow in the garden – it’s not a nice feeling,” Ms Mackie said.
“I feel paranoid. I went down to Greenock two weeks ago and when I came up the road I didn’t leave the house for 11 days. It’s a horrible feeling.
“It’s alright having people say they understand and being nice, but it’s not the same as being home where my family and friends are.”
A 20-year-old man was detained by police in connection with the alleged attack on Kai, but was released before appearing in court.
A spokesman for the Crown Office said: “After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, the Procurator Fiscal decided that there was insufficient evidence available for a prosecution and as a result no criminal proceedings will be taken at this time,” he said.
“The Crown reserves the right to proceed in the future should further evidence become available.”
