A north-east MSP has criticised Aberdeen City Council for insisting playground equipment must be removed from Tillydrone.
Residents have been told to take down two sets of swings and two trampolines which they had erected for their children to play with because they do not comply with European safety standards.
Kevin Stewart, MSP for Aberdeen Central, said the order defied belief.
He said: “The council’s stance appears to run in the face of common sense.
“In almost every other area of housing in Aberdeen the residents have back gardens in which to house their own play equipment.
“All my constituents want for their children is that they have the same access to play equipment as everyone else.
“It seems unreasonable, indeed I would go as far as saying indecent, for the council to maintain large tracts of open grass in Tillydrone and yet throw every obstacle in the way of the local children from using it.”
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said it was merely sticking to the rules.
“Any outdoor play area which is open to the public must comply with European Safety Standard for playground equipment,” she said.
“This equipment does not comply and residents have been asked to remove items for health and safety reasons.”
